Refresh Your Soul

Sunflower Field- Aug 2009

Last night I sat down at the computer to look for some pictures I could use for a post today. But I got to thinking about Harland and how much I miss him instead. He’s been gone since Monday morning, and won’t be back until tomorrow afternoon. For those of you who follow along regularly, you know that most all of the pictures that end up here of Harland are of him on the tractor, in the combine, or driving a grain truck. But he is also a photographer, and this week has been away on an assignment.

When he’s not farming, you’ll find him with a camera in his hand.

I once asked when he got into photography, and he said he didn’t remember a time when he wasn’t interested in taking pictures.

A good reason to have life insurance. Utah - Dec 09

I’ve noticed that if he goes a long time without taking pictures, the spring goes out of his step. Hauling all his camera equipment out a mile onto the prairie to get the perfect sunset shot, and then hauling all the equipment back to the truck in the dark is the perfect day for him.

It refreshes his soul, and we all need something in our lives that does just that.

Suzanne, love your blog and wonderful story. Your photos all made me stay awhile and enjoy!

As for what recharges my soul: the morning kiss from my wonderful husband, the smile on the face of our children and grandchildren, the sunrise, seeing the first seed sprout in the spring’s vegetable garden, the first day I put on a sweat shirt to go outside… whew, where does one end the list?

Thank you for allowing us to peak in.

What refresh my soul is many things laughter is one if you laugh at something stupid you did to be able to laugh at your self.
Nature is another one I was taught as a little girl from my father to look at the whole picture around you not just in front and see beauty, beauty is all around us we have to look and it is there. So I have taught my children to look all around and see the beauty that is for us to see and to be able to laugh at your self if you make a mistake you have that right and do not get down on your self you learn something and now you are a better person.

I think getting outdoors, away from traffic and noise really refreshes my spirit. I go walking early in the mornings for exercise and that also helps me have a good attitude about my day.

The pictures are wonderful, especially the Grand Canyon in snow.

      Hi Vivian,
Yes, the outdoors is a big one for me too. Sometimes just sitting on my front step looking out over the fields for a few minutes does the trick for me.

    Can’t choose between these:

A sunny day in the winter (We live on the ‘wet coast’)

A clean kitchen and a meal to prepare

Going hunting with my husband and baby

Lazy mornings in bed with husband and baby!

The first day of the year I can wear a summer skirt

As Aletha said, laughter and beauty. Beauty is everywhere
you look and see it in your soul. Makes you feel thankful.
Also family get togethers, with all the laughter and hugs.
Just yummy like your pumpkin pie! Can you feel it Suzanne? Isn’t it great?

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Doe,
Family get togethers are a big one, I agree. I haven’t seen my sister and her family in CO in a year and a half, but are traveling there for Thanksgiving. Can’t wait. And I’m making a pumpkin pie for the occasion too. 🙂

Of most things laughter refreshes my soul, as well. Nothing cleans out the cobwebs like a hearty laugh.

You’re not so bad yourself with taking pictures. I love the one of Bryce Canyon we have several of us bundled up too, to get that sunrise shot.
I like photography…..well, really taking pictures. I can do the rule of thirds and then I’m lost. haha

Nature really helps me recharge. I noticed winter wasn’t as long as normal bc we got a dog. and you HAVE to walk the hound in any weather….and quite frankly walking in 22 inches of the white stuff was therapeutic! Go figure?

    • Suzanne says:

      Thank you Julie!
Hey I think your photos are great. Just paid a visit to your site, and love the pics of your dog. Wonderful light.

Is he a bird photographer? I admire anyone who can do good bird photography. I am a birder….564 birds in North America on my life list, but not in photos.

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Elaine,
He does take photos of birds: prairie chickens, shore birds, bald eagles. He bought a larger lens last year just for the purpose.

Love this. I too like photography and just being out on the farm, close to the animals and nature.

I so enjoy your posts. Thanks for sharing.

  13. pretty much anything dealing with nature refreshes my soul..getting outside for long periods of time really does it for me. It’s gotta be all that fresh air and being away from technology and just fills the spirit and refreshes the soul.

I love to photograph as well. It does energize, especially the beauty of waterfalls, like I photographed this year and in early Dec. One was frozen and the others not that I had to walk in to get photos. Nature is so awesome! The ocean energizes me and quiets my soul. My hubby says it’s white noise. Love the photography!
