Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

I have problems with six tulips I’ve planted in my rosebed. They’ve only come up nicely one out of the four years. I think the month of April is tough with the temps that range from 25-90. This year I got the green leaves but no flowers.

For some reason, I too do not have good luck growing tulips. I love them but they refuse to grow for me.

This is weird: right before I read your sentence about appreciating it even more because it’s the only one, that’s the exact thought I had!
It’s beautiful; I really do need to plant some tulips!

P.S. Just read your answer on the Dew post about what kinda leaves you had in the photo. No wonder they looked familiar – I also have Columbine and I just love them. So delicate and pretty.
    Will enjoy seeing yours too.

I love tulips. I have some myself. I was going to go out to tulip field today and photograph, but it’s raining again and chilly and my back is still stiff….and I think I’ll wait for better weather on Monday. Tulips take special care. You should be able to grow them well, since it’s cold. You might try to dig bulb up in fall and replant it and make sure there is some nutrient there. Potting soil not good as it’s too heavy. I will get back with you as I know the people at Wooden Shoe Tulip farm know well how to plant. http://www.woodenshoe.com

Certainly is a beautiful one! I’m still waiting for mine to bloom.

      Hi Teresa,
The warm weather this week should get them finally blooming. Would love to see your pics when they do.

  9. Oh my, just one tulip…that is really neat! It definitely does make it all the more special.
