Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

He is beautiful. No sharptail grouse in TN. And no prairie chickens. Hope this birds do not get crowded out.

Fascinating! How did you know the grouse were going to be in front of your blind? The face off was funny. It looks like they both won that one!
    Thanks for sharing!

      Hi Kelly,
The grouse like to use the same hill day after day, year after year, so the blind was placed there back in the late winter knowing the birds will be arriving there right in front of it. Grouse are definitely creatures of habit and so photographing them is easy at least in that respect.

I loved it! The noises they make are very cool and I cannot even discribe that rustle the feathers are making. The fast little shuffle dance, all of it was great! Thank yoou Suzanne and Harland.

The kids love your blogs and the birds you and Harland film and photograph. It’s a great science lesson for them. Thank you for all your efforts.

      Hi Bonnie,
I read somewhere that the quick step they do is 20 steps per second. Talk about a cardio exercise.
