Flowers of Sunshine

It’s that time of year again, when the sunflower fields are nearing full bloom. The first blooms are just opening,

but soon, a fire of sunny yellow will spread over hilltops and valleys. Bright sunflower faces will happily greet the morning sun, and turn sadly away from the setting sun.

It’s sunflower season,

and in the next couple weeks I’ll take lots of pictures to share.

I love this time of year.   Stay tuned.

I LOVE sunflowers. We grew some in our backyard garden several years ago but haven’t tried them again since. They are so sunny you can’t help but feel good when you see them.

So what are you using to shoot these body and lens-wise? These pictures are beautiful. I’d be interested to know you set them up.

Thanks Jay! Camera body is a Canon 50d with a Sigma 18-200 lens. Aperture f22 for maximum depth of field, but I learned from the chief later that I should have had it more around f14 as shutting the aperture closed all the way sacrifices image quality. I had the ISO set at 200. Hand held.

Beautiful, don’t you love their simplicity! Mine blew over in the hurricane on Saturday…

  8. I just had to stop in and say hello. I LOVE your Prairie blog. So glad you are preserving the beauty you see here. I’m adding a link to your blog from mine, if that is OK with you. I have a (very small) Midwest page on my blog, where I have tried to get a few pictures of pretty things here in Kansas (MO, NE and IA too.) My tiny page is still in it’s infancy, but i wanted to show other people that we were not just a “flyover” zone.

Just back from your site. I love how homey and comfy it looks and especially enjoyed your linens page.
And you’re so right about how important it is to change the perception of the “flyover zone”. So much going on here, both past and present.
Thanks and I’ll be stopping by your lovely blog again.

Our sunflowers are in bloom too. They are my favorite flower and even when I lived in South Florida I was able to grow them outdoors most years.
