Raymondskill Falls – Pennsylvania

On our way home from our Maine vacation, we stopped at a waterfall in eastern Pennsylvania. We could hear the rushing water from the parking lot, and as we walked the wooded trail towards the falls the sound grew louder and louder. Finally we reached the upper viewing platform and were struck in all our senses. Ahead of us was a large pool with 2 small falls above it.

Below the pool was a large falls pounding into a mist below us.

Further down the trail was another platform situated near the lower falls,

with a great view of the upper falls.

Raymondskill is the tallest waterfall in Pennsylvania, and is only 4 feet shorter than Niagara Falls.

Here’s a short video.

.

As we watched the falls, it began to lightly rain upon us. We packed up our gear and walked back to our truck. Hurricane Irene was just entering the area. We drove west and outran her easily. We spent that night in Elkhorn Indiana, and made it home to northeast Kansas the following evening, tired, but glad to be home.

Next week:

  • Blooming sunflowers and a monarch butterfly greet the morning sun.
  • Also: The soldiers in blue and gray are at it again – this time in Lamoni Iowa at the 9th Annual Civil War Days event.

  1. Suzanne!!! I love it! That is one beautiful waterfall!! Incredible. I love how there is a series of falls…so great. Don’t you just love how it so rocky and chunky and lush. That’s my PA! I’m so glad you got a taste of Pennsylvania…really, I am!!! Thank you for posting the video…I enjoyed it. We are supposed to be heading over to northeastern PA sometime this Fall to PA’s “grand canyon” and then on to Bolder park {I think that’s what it’s called…acres and acres of boulders}.
    Have a great weekend!!!

Very pretty. It is hard to believe they are so close in size to Niagra Falls.I think it is because they are to different. The water in the pond (pool) is so dark it almost looks spooky! Great pics as always. It sounds like you had a great vacation. What fun! Welcome back.

I have been getting your RSS feed and have been a quiet follower. This week I’ve really enjoyed the beauty of nature through your Maine travel posts, and the falls are breathtaking. I like your use of pictures and then the video makes me feel like I’m there. I use it as my time to slow down and just enjoy those sights and sounds as they bring peace and calm. Thanks for sharing!

Your photos are awesome (as usual). While you were in Maine did you get to swim in the ocean? Also, if you go to the beach you can see seals and dolphins 🙂
