Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Printer Friendly Printer Friendly

This is about the easiest recipe I’ve ever done. So you’ve removed the seeds from your pie pumpkins after making puree, and now what to do?

Well, wash them in a mixing bowl of water rubbing them together with your hands. Change the water repeatedly until you’ve removed all the pulp and your seeds are clean.

Next, spread them out on a cookie sheet to dry. Now where to put them out of harm’s way so they can get some sun and dry out?

.

.

Problem solved.

Stir them around every once in a while until all of them are dry.

Preheat your oven to 275 degrees. Next, in a large saucepan over low heat combine 4 tablespoons of butter, 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt, and 2 teaspoons worchestershire sauce.

When the butter is melted and stirred with the other ingredients, add the pumpkin seeds to the pan and stir well to coat.

Return the seeds to the cookie sheet

and put in your preheated oven. Heat for 10 – 20 minutes until golden brown. Stir about every 5 minutes to cook evenly.

Enjoy!

I love your audience on the back burner! At least they don’t comment about your cooking!
You are so practical! Putting those seeds to dry in the car window. Brilliant you!!!!

Tee hee… Years ago I read where people use their car as a dehydrator in the summer, and I’ve always remembered that I guess. 🙂

I just gutted a spaghetti squash last night and have the seeds drying. I intend to roast them tonight. I figured I’d use olive oil but butter might be better…

How do you not splatter the bunnies?

    • Suzanne says:

The bunnies are living there on the stove temporarily until I can find a place for them. I’d like a shadowbox for them, but I also want a china cabinet, so I’ve been thinking about getting one of those. In the meantime I have an audience whenever I cook which is kinda nice. 🙂

You never cease to amaze me. You put them in your car window!!!? Clever. I also just read the response from Alyse…you can eat those to?? Who knew? When my son was in Iraq all he wanted was pumpkins seeds so this brings back memories.Yes,he is home safe.

That’s a hoot! The dashboard drying method. I’ll have to remember that, especially with two curious cats. Thanks for giving me a chuckle today.

It’s been way too long since I’ve done this. I might have to try your recipe since I have several pumpkins from the garden.
