Late Summer Flower Garden

My flower garden has not fared well this summer. The heat and drought took their toll, and if I hadn’t watered regularly, I think most of the garden would have died. Still going strong though is the native wildflower area on the west side of the house.

The Mexican hat looks better now than it did this summer.

Go figure.

The aromatic asters are fall bloomers and just getting started.

They’ll bloom until frost.

The yellow toadflax has bloomed off an on all summer.

And then there’s this wildflower, scientific name, kittius wildus.

Do you see it?

How about now?

Ah, there it is, Kitty, the wildest flower of all.

Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

Nice to see ALL of your flowers doing well. Are you sure that last one wasn’t a noxious WEED? Just kidding.

  2. Oh. my. gosh! That is the most adorable thing ever! kittius wildus! I had a feeling you were talking about your kitty, but I was looking so intently on that first photo…I’m like, wait…I don’t see a ki…then I scrolled down a little…..ooohhh there she is! That is so awesome. She was totally spying on you. Great post. And, by the way, your flowers are beautiful. I’m sorry, but kitty just stole the show. At first I’m like, wow, how beautiful are these flowers..and then it was kitty hiding in the brush in the wilds of Africa {hee hee} and I totally forgot about the golden splendor of Mexican Hat! LOL!

I love your kitty stories. Your garden flowers are beautiful. I am hoping to have a nice small flower garden; but, it get unmercifully hot down here along with the fact we rarely get rain makes it difficult. Combine that with my inner values of not wasting anything including water makes it almost impossible! LOL. but, I am going to have several water barrels on our property and am hoping that will do for gardening. 🙂

  5. beautiful flowers, must feel good to get to see some color! It was brown here most of the summer. Kitty stole the show though.

I think Harlan might have some competition! Beautiful photos! Your garden is brilliant! I planted a perennial garden 2 years ago and have been adding to it. It was a very dry summer and my poor Bee Balm did terrible! Loved the hidden hunter 🙂 Kitty just brightens my day!

  8. Kittius Wildus is the prettiest flower I have seen! 🙂 And the asters aren’t too shabby either.
