Canada Geese

Every fall and winter we see thousands of Canada Geese winging overhead flying south, or resting in farm fields. But to see them in the summer is a bit of a rarity. So we were surprised to see this small group resting at the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge on our recent visit.

Can you imagine sleeping while standing on one foot, like the one on the right?

Thousands of Canada Geese hang out in the winter here, but this was a small group of only four (these three and another one swimming nearby).

We figured it was a family group, two parents and a couple of young raised here this summer.

Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

A lovely post Suzanne, we too have geese in CT. I love the honking from above, we have hundreds resting and eating. One stays in the air as a lookout! As always a great post, thanks!

You know even at my age, living here in Lexington from Buffalo, NY in the springtime my heart still sings when I hear the geese fly over head. A change of seasons.

The lightening bugs are gone from our area now and the nights aren’t as colorful. I never saw them back in NY.

We still have Harvey the humming bird flying around. He too will soon be heading south for the winter.
