Ensley Gardens

Sunday, Harland and I visited Ensley Garden at Lake Shawnee in Topeka. We go each year during Topeka’s “Tulip Time” to see the tulips and the other spring blooming flowers. Each fall, thousands of tulip bulbs are planted, and the following spring the garden explodes into every color imaginable.

Flower beds cover most of the nine acre garden and there is also a pond, waterfall, and gazebo.

Tulips are the main attraction this time of year, but I also enjoy the woodland garden too.

I love Bleeding Heart.

Here’s the white variety of Bleeding Heart.

Rows of little Grape Hyacinths bordered the sidewalks.

And there was a bed of white full-sized Hyacinths.

But back to the main event – the tulips.  There were so many colors. The reds, yellows and oranges were so bright and cheerful.

This double tulip was one of my favorites.

Of course the pink tulips drew me in.

“Pink is my signature color.”

Quick, what movie???

The white tulips didn’t grab attention like the other colors, but were showy in their own way.

If your community has a tulip festival, do pay them a visit.

I’m going to plant some more tulips this fall.  I just have to decide which colors.
