Yesterday evening after supper, we walked out to the pasture near our house where the heifers and their new calves are. So far, 3 of the heifers have calved, with another 10 to go. Those who haven’t calved yet are in a pen near the barn, while those who have calved are in the pasture.
Harland had a bucket of grain to give everyone.
And the calves, all of them less than a week old, were feeling frisky and hopped and ran about, testing their young legs.
When newborn calves run laps around the pasture, it makes their Moms very nervous.
“Don’t run dear! You’ll attract the attention of predators!”
Harland was extra tired last night. Daylight savings and all this getting up in the middle of the night to check on the girls is catching up with him.
We went to bed early.
