Rialto Beach

I know what you’re thinking. Rialto Beach? Doesn’t that girl live in Kansas? Huh?

Yes, I live in Kansas. And yes, this blog is about life in Kansas… mostly.  But our computer is in the shop this week, and the only access to any of my pictures is an external backup drive with older stuff.  So this week, I’ll be showing you some pics taken during our trips over the last couple years.

First up: Rialto Beach in Olympic National Park in the beautiful state of Washington.

We were there in July of last year as part of a trip to both Washington and Oregon. We flew into Portland, rented a car, and spent a week driving up through central Washington and then back south again along the coast and on down along the Oregon coast. Rialto Beach was our first visit to the ocean on this trip, and flatlanders that we are, we stood in awe of the enormous driftwood,

the crashing waves,

the silvery light,

and one of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve ever witnessed.

It was one of the best parts of that trip. Such a beautiful spot, and we’re so glad that it will always be there for future generations.

—->All this week, or until our computer comes back home to us from the shop, travel pics from around the country. C’mon back tomorrow for the next stop.

Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

  8. Left a comment a few days ago..but revisiting this post again. Makes me realize how much I did enjoy living on the west coast. We lived very close to Seattle. My husband and I were ALWAYS taking day trips and taking a ferry here and there. I wasn’t into photography as much then as I am now. Geez, if I was there now, I would be going crazy with the pictures. I just wanted to comment on that gigantic piece of driftwood! Holy cow! Absolutely astonishing! It really is a whole ‘nother world over there in the state of Washington. The vastness of everything is absolutely incredible!

      Hi Bonnie,
Would love to go back to Washington and spend more time there. It’s kinda special for me also because my dad was stationed on Whidbey Island when he was in the Navy in the 50s and he used to talk about Washington all the time. He passed in 1992, so when I was there it was like he was with me.
