Ensley Gardens

Sunday, Harland and I visited Ensley Garden at Lake Shawnee in Topeka. We go each year during Topeka’s “Tulip Time” to see the tulips and the other spring blooming flowers. Each fall, thousands of tulip bulbs are planted, and the following spring the garden explodes into every color imaginable.

Flower beds cover most of the nine acre garden and there is also a pond, waterfall, and gazebo.

Tulips are the main attraction this time of year, but I also enjoy the woodland garden too.

I love Bleeding Heart.

Here’s the white variety of Bleeding Heart.

Rows of little Grape Hyacinths bordered the sidewalks.

And there was a bed of white full-sized Hyacinths.

But back to the main event – the tulips.  There were so many colors. The reds, yellows and oranges were so bright and cheerful.

This double tulip was one of my favorites.

Of course the pink tulips drew me in.

“Pink is my signature color.”

Quick, what movie???

The white tulips didn’t grab attention like the other colors, but were showy in their own way.

If your community has a tulip festival, do pay them a visit.

I’m going to plant some more tulips this fall.  I just have to decide which colors.

Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

Pretty Woman? Wild guess at best.
Lovely, lovely, lovely! Apparently Topeka wasn’t suffering the cold gusty winds Saturday that Missouri was. Thanks for sharing!

Steel Magnolias. Pink was Shelby’s signature color. The pictures are beautiful. We won’t see tulips in Michigan for a few weeks yet. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Gorgeous!!! Thank you for sharing those tulips.
We often enjoy the roses at Gage Park in Topeka but have not seen the tulip gardens.

      Hi Gardener,
We saw the roses a few years ago there, – very beautiful! Topeka does a great job on their gardens and parks.

  4. Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Thanks for the pictures. We had high winds that tore up the neighbors barns and the church beside us. Looks like it was a calm and relaxing day.
Thanks for the comment on Agnus. The neighbor actually ran into the calf and purposely knocked her down with the 4 wheeler. Didn’t want to say that in the blog.

Thank you so much for all the great comments. I appreciate them all.

      Mary,
I hope everything was ok at your place. That must have been very scary for you.
Oh, that’s awful about the guy running his 4 wheeler into the calf. No wonder it was so scared after that.
Thank you for visiting, and take care.
      Love your blog.

  6. Absolutely beautiful! I love it, love it, love it. It must have been so refreshing and wonderful to walk around and see all of that loveliness…I would have been a photo takin’ fool! We don’t have any tulip festivals around here. When my husband and I lived in Washington state, we went to the tulip festival in Tulalip, WA. It was magnificent! Wouldn’t you know it, I forgot my camera that day!

      HI Bonnie,
I think I’ve heard of the tulip festival there in Washington…it’s a big one isn’t it?
      Thanks for visiting.

I thought the pink and white ones were my favorite, but that last photo of the white one is beautiful too!

  8. Oh Suzanne. Wow. Beautifully photographed, as always.

I was thinking “Pretty in Pink.” Who wouldn’t be compelled to go out and purchase tulip bulbs?

  10. Glenda says:

Ah yes, Steel Magnolias. At least I was thinking Julia Roberts!
    Wonderful photos and what beauty!

    • Suzanne says:

Thank you Glenda. And she had 2 shades of pink also: blush and bashful. How come I can remember that, but I can’t tell you what I had for lunch yesterday?

  11. I’m so jealous, how beautiful. Glad you had the chance to see all of those and share them with us.

Absolutely beautiful! You’ve really made me think I’d like to go to the tulip festival that is near here. You pictures are always amazing.

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Teresa,
If you can get away, it’s well worth it.
Thank you, and let’s keep our fingers crossed for warmer weather.
