Big 80s Hair

Ok, listen up. Everything old is new again, so I figure at some point big 80s hair will come back in style and when it does, I’ll be ready.  Will you?  If not, here’s how to get your own big 80s hairdo.

  1. Move to northeast Kansas, or anywhere else that has really hard water. Ours is so hard stalactites form on our faucets.
  2. Wash your hair regularly with said water.
  3. Use a shampoo that strips all the oils out of your hair, like Prell, because even though you’re in your 40s now, you still have oily hair.
  4. Skip using conditioner because you’re kinda claustrophobic and can’t wait to get out of the shower.
  5. Spend a hot, humid summer day outdoors.
  6. Turn your head upside down and fluff up your hair.

Are you ready?

    Thats to cute, girl.

    • Suzanne says:

Thanks Doe. It’s a good thing we live in a rural community. I could scare small children looking like that. 🙂

  2. Ok, yes, that is some big hair! You always have the best sense of humor! Wasn’t 80’s hair fun?? I was still doing big hair in the early 90’s!

The irony is that back in the 80s my hair was so straight I had to get a home perm to make it look like that. And now that straight hair is in, my hair has gone wavy and crazy on me. I’m never in style. 🙂

  3. Jo Anne says:

you are too funny! i can do the same thing with my hair, here in Utah!

  4. Tina says:

Cute do! You made me laugh. My hair is stick straight but I’ll bet my water is harder than yours, it is terrible. By the way buy some nice shampoo and just put a couple of spoonfuls of salt in it (an old hairdressers trick) it helps oily hair. But you never know that big hair may come back in style but please stop scaring the children!! Ahhh! Run!!!

    Too cute!

  6. Sonya says:

That is some seriously great 80’s hair!

  7. Elaine Snively says:

LOL! One reason why I keep my “straight as a poker” hair short.

  8. Pam K. says:

Haha, brings back memories! My mom always used to buy Prell because we all had oily scalps, too! But the best thing I ever did for my hair was start buying the “expensive” brands of shampoo from my hairdresser. My hair is SO much more manageable now that I use good shampoo and conditioner! And it’s really not that expensive, since the oiliness has finally gone out of my hair now that I’m past 50 and only need to wash my hair a couple times a week! A big $25 liter bottle lasts me well over a year!

  9. Reminds me of my Senior Pictures. Except I didn’t have bangs!!

  10. RochelleM says:

I wish I had some of that texture; I have straight, flat, thin hair! I know about the hard water though; my sister lives in NE Kansas and has hard water too.

  11. Linda says:

L-O-L! Makes me wish my hair wasn’t so short. 🙂

You are definitely rockin’ the big 80s hair. LOL gotta have a great sense of humor about such things.

  13. Patty says:

You are toooo funny!!! My hair looks just like yours if I don’t use a leave in gel & a hair clippie. Mine is ALWAYS pulled back for that very reason. Oh no Jo Anne, where in Utah??? I’m getting ready to move there & I was told their is no humidity in Utah so I was hoping for more managable hair. lol

  14. Carole says:

Oh my–I love it! I love to go home to western Oklahoma and wash my hair in that hard water. It looks perfect each and every time. I’m serious, you look adorable!
