Sheep

One of our neighbors raises sheep, and when I go for a drive around the section like I did Saturday morning taking pics of hoarfrost, I passed by the sheep pen.

This is a group of ewes who are due to have their lambs sometime in the next month.

I’ve never raised sheep, but I do love to watch them. Such quizzical expressions they have. And with all that wool, they look like they’re all wearing parkas fit for arctic weather.

I watched them for a while….and all of them watched me. (Oh look, there’s the black sheep of the family)

I was outnumbered. And it was quiet…too quiet. Were they planning to take me down and steal my camera?

They might not want to do the “raise lambs and provide wool” thing anymore.

Maybe they want to take my car and hit the open road. Feel the wind in their wool.

Take it on the lamb.

I backed slowly away, made a run for the car, dropped the hammer and raced for home.

I hope they don’t know where I live.

I had no idea that you could tell sheep apart by their faces. Amazing what your camera brings to light, Suzanne.

      Glenda,
That struck me too when I got home to look at the pics how different all their faces look. I’m so used to looking at a group of black Angus cows that all look the same.

The sheep are so cute. Love their nice little wool hats. Also I see in the 3rd photo the lady in middle seems to be sending you a different kind of message. Maybe she was the black sheep? Love the post – thanks.

  8. So funny…they are on the lamb!
    Love your blog as always,

    Kristina

Your photos are beautiful. After they have their lambs will you be there for the shearing? I’m not asking to be funny or anything I would really love to see pics of that…. I grew up in the country (I know how to neuter a bull calf), but now live in the suburbs and work in the big city. I miss the lifestyle….

      HI Eliza,
It’s funny you should ask because I am thinking about asking them if I could be there during lambing and shearing to take pics to share. Hmmmmm……:)
