Eureka!!

In our recent travels around Kansas, we came across this marker which explains the origin of a town’s name:

I can understand their excitement over finding water. Some parts of Kansas can get awfully dry at times.

So I joined in the excitement.  EUREKA!!

But it’s a good thing the early pioneers didn’t shout out some sort of profanity upon finding that spring.

Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

Ha ha! Too funny. Your right about shouting out any other word. You and Harland are so lucky you get do so much traveling. I would love to visit more history spots than I do. My kids aren’t up to seeing much history and I don’t like going alone.

Hello to a fellow Kansan. I live in Wichita and have lived in Kansas all my life. Hot, isn’t it–but that’s Kansas. Kansas has lots of interesting places to visit and learn about. Enjoy your travels around the state. Mickie 🙂

It has been so HOT here lately, and it’s probably even hotter down there in Wichita. We went to the zoo down there one summer, it was just too hot, but we plan on going back to there in cooler weather. We also love the botanical garden there and the river walk. Wichita is a beautiful town.

  4. Too funny Suzanne. You’re right… good thing no one shouted out a four letter word! 🙂

  5. Ha Ha! Yes, good thing they didn’t use a swear word! Makes me think of a town in Pennsylvania called “Intercourse”. Yes, it gets made fun of! I haven’t yet researched why it was named this…just one of those things you always want to look up and always forget!

Oh dear. I’m sure they weren’t thinking what we’re thinking when they named their town that. Oh dear.
