Pink Iris

When I moved out of my Mom’s house in my 20s (finally!), she gave me some plants out of her flower garden.

And every time I’ve moved since, I’ve taken them with me.

One of those is this pink iris.

When I was a kid, Mom had a large iris bed with all different colors, purple, yellow, peach, pink, maroon, and I loved them all, but my favorite was, and still is, the pink one.

It’s so delicate,

so frothy, frilly, erethral.

And the scent is delicate,

kinda peachy,  but not overwhelming.

Perfect.

What’s your favorite flower/color?

Have a great day all!

I love iris ….of every color because my mom had them all!! I love the scent, too. To me they smell faintly of root beer!

I chuckled when I read your comment about the “root beer” smell as I have thought the same thing. No one has ever agreed with me on this before. That scent can carry me right back to childhood!

Beautiful flower – lucky you to have kept it from move to move.

My favorite flower is the camelia and my favorite variety is the Pink Perfection. I love that it blooms in the winter when everything else is hibernating. <3

This is so pretty! Our iris won’t be blooming for about another month, but I love them. Just wish they lasted longer! I have one that is a medium burgundy/wine color…I think it’s my favorite! Or maybe it’s the white/blue one…I love them all! 🙂

I have never seen a pink iris. It is beautiful! I have purple ones, but they don’t have a scent that I know of. Maybe I just didn’t notice. How great that you were able to move your irises with you.

I love iris also. My favorite is the white with purple edges.
On another note: I am still growing the “soup garlic” that my Grandmother and Great Grandmother brought over from Austria-Hungary in the early 1900s.

I still have iris in my perennial border that my Mom sent to me in a shoebox many years ago!!

It’s really a joy to garden with those plants that were loved and cared for by mothers and grandmothers, too.

The iris is my very favorite. I have many irises that I have had for years. Every place I have ever lived I have had an iris bed. I also have a pink iris along with many other colors which I add to every year. Isn’t spring a joy??

  8. Your pink iris is lovely! But what makes it extra special is that it came from your mother’s garden. I love how gardeners love to share their plants with friends and children, and spread the joy of gardening down to the next generation. I wish I lived close enough to raid my mother’s garden for cuttings.
Have you been out to see the Iris garden at K-State yet? I heard they are all in bloom right now. Everything is so early this year! It’s so hard to think of just one favorite flower. I have too many. I have pink roses in bloom right now and I sure do love those. (posted a picture on my blog today.)

My favorite color of flower is purple and I think my favorite flower is the tulip. And the hellebore. I love the photos of you pink iris. There is an iris field south of here that grow bearded iris and they are so pretty. I need to go and get photos of them again. I’ve been there once. I have great photo in our hallway of art deco iris, they are purple with white on them. Also have nice pink one as well, not framed and in storage for now. I need to get it out. You’d like it! I have cuttings of saxifrage from my mom and we are always cutting it back since it gets too close to sidewalk. sigh! Have a good weekend, that’s coming up!

Beautiful! I’ve never seen one that shade. We’ve had purple and lavender ones. My favorite flower is the lilac–sure miss them. However, one must adapt to new surroundings and I’ve always loved the gardenia. Hoping I’ll get one for Mother’s Day. Otherwise, I’ll go get it, myself.

Beautiful photos, Suzanne! You really capture the details of your beloved Iris. I can imagine the scent, clearly from your description.

My favorite flowers are scented red roses.

My favorite flowers are the lilacs in Montana. Purple and white so pretty but the smell that came in through our open windows was wonderful The bushes were as high as our 2 story house and probably very old as well. To this day that smell takes me back. Suzanne your pink iris is beautiful. I have never seen one that color and by the way I think the ladies out there that are keeping the flower sharing alive are wonderful. We should find a way to do that…share a bulb with each other.

That is just the most precious thing to always take your Mom’s iris with you! My favorite iris would be that delicate pink also. I truly don’t think I could pick one favorite flower, but I do love tulips, roses, geraniums, pansies, morning glories, big orange daylilies, bougainvillea, clematis, peonies, and oh my, the list goes one forever! I learned everything I know about flowers from my mother, who had a fantastic green thumb.
