Lake Superior

Well, our computer is still in the shop. It’s been there since Monday, and it doesn’t look like we’ll get it back until next week. (Cue sound of hysterical sobbing, wailing and gnashing of teeth.) Since I use it for all my photo editing, I’ll have to continue showing you older photos until the return of the prodigal computer.

In July 2008, Harland and I headed north to escape the awful Kansas heat, and more importantly to celebrate a special event in our lives. Read on to find out.

We spent a week in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Most of that time was spent along the shore of Lake Superior.

Clear Waters Of Lake Superior

We stayed in Two Harbors and Duluth, MN, and one day drove along the coast over to Wisconsin.

We just fell in love with the area.  The light was fantastic, the water crystal clear, and the views spectacular.

Lake Superior is the largest body of fresh water in the world at 350 miles long and 160 miles wide. We felt like we were at the ocean rather than a lake. The rocky coast near Two Harbors reminded me of Maine.

This area will always be special to us not just for its beauty and serenity, but also because we were there on our honeymoon.

(PS: Since this picture was taken, Harland went on a diet and lost 40 pounds!)

Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

All the Great Lakes are beautiful. I am prejudice being originally from Michigan. We have a
cabin on the northern part of Lake Huron. Wonderful place. Have been going there summers for 43 years.

I have been up there twice once on my honeymoon 35 years ago and another time when we went up to Canada with my Mom and our 4 kids for a vacation. It is beautiful up there and so clean the air it seems. beautiful pictures.

      Hi Aletha,
Thank you. My husband has been up into Canada and would love to go back sometime. The air does seem cleaner I agree.

Hope you’re computer is able to be repaired! Am enjoying all your vacation posts. 🙂

      Hi Sarah Lynn,
Thank you. The computer finally came back from the shop yesterday. Two hard drives had bitten the dust and had to be replaced. Good to have it home.

It is frustrating to be without your computer. I’m so happy to have mine back. It’s just a matter of installing the new hard drive that Dell sent to us because the current hard drive is “bad”. How, don’t know exactly. But, it’s working fine at the moment. Anyway, hoping you get yours back real soon!

      Hi Lee Ann,
That’s what happened with ours – 2 hard drives had to be replaced, and we got it back yesterday. Thank you!

  6. Suzanne, that was my grandmother’s name too!! Just found you and your wonderful photography. I’m looking forward to learning some things from you. And I love that you travel around to neat places and share them with us.

      Hi Sue,
      Thank you!
I was born in Clearwater, Florida. We moved to Missouri when I was seven, and I’ve never been back since. But guess what? We’re taking a trip in December to Florida. Can’t wait.

    You guys travel alot…that’s cool!
    The Lake is just beautiful.

      Hi Julie,
Thank you! I always wanted to travel, but didn’t want to go alone, and Harland loves traveling, so it’s a good fit.

  8. Oh my goodness! I had no idea how beautiful Lake Superior is! Thank you for sharing these photos because now I would like to add this to the list of places I want to visit. My favorite photo is the second one…where you can see the stones in the water and the rounding of the shoreline. Oh man, that kind of stuff is heaven to me. Really! I am a nature girl and I am in heaven at places like this. I could sit there with a cup of coffee for hours and just take it all in. What a great place for a honeymoon, the lake, the cabin…awesome! You and Harland are so cute together! Love the photo of you two! I am so envious how you two get to travel around together. Right now with me being a part timer and the primary cargiver for our children, there is nothing left in the budget for travel…but…there will be someday! and my hubby and I will be traveling around just like you and Harland!

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Bonnie,
Me neither – I always thought that Lake Superior was grey and murky and not inviting at all. But it is so beautiful!
We so enjoy traveling together- nothing better than hitting the road with the one you love most.

Thanks for sharing these lovely photos of our State. Everyone thinks it’s just a frozen wasteland up here, but it can be some of the most spectacular looking country. I too love the area around Lake Superior, and would love to someday move up there.

Beautiful pictures–I can’t imagine that Harland was able to lose 40 pounds!! From your posting–you appear to be a VERY enticing and yummy cook!! Good for him!! That takes will power!

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Melanie,
Oh how I love to cook, and in the first year we were married we both gained. But he got the weight off last summer(me too), and has kept it off. I’m so proud of him.
