Circle Of Life

A pair of robins have built a nest atop a head-gate in one of the farm buildings. The parents were quite angry with me for being so near their nest and screamed at me from a nearby tree as I took a few quick pics of it last evening.

Which is a curious thing when you think about it:

The robins, in spite of being afraid of me, were willing to risk their lives to protect their babies.

-Babies that may be nothing more than a collection of cells at this point, unseen by their parents, but recognized by them to be their babies.

-Not fully formed, but fully deserving of their parent’s protection, care, and love.

Baby robins have hatched out by the trash dumpster at work. Every night when I take out the trash I get scolded by their parents. I try to explain myself to them but it has done no good.

  • Beautiful thought. You are so philosophical today! Love the photo.

A precious sentiment to share. I am so thankful God created animals for us! Thanks for sharing. ☺

We have kites (small hawks)in our neighborhood. Every spring they come back like a plague and steal baby song birds out of the nest. There is no way to stop them or drive them away. For that reason I don’t put out bird feeders or houses to encourage song birds to nest here. Same goes for hummingbirds. I have seen a kite snatch a dragonfly in the air and eat it without stopping. The songbird parents chase them but somehow can’t prevent their raids.

I garbage picked a martin house. We put it on a 8 foot fence post and we have baby starlings in it. You can hear them in the house. I really wanted sparrows or robins or my favorite cardinals or blue jays, maybe next year!!!! A bird is a bird and I love them all.

I’ve heard that purple martin houses have to go out early otherwise you’ll end up with other nesting birds. But I can’t say for certain this works as I’ve never had a purple martin house.

  • lovely egg color… wonder if monitor is rendering anything close to natural ?~!

have I missed an update on that mama cow who spent more’n a week learning to love her son ?
I have spent a couple hours wondering how she made it once they went out to pasture.

Sorry, Things got busy and I never did another update on her. She let him nurse and even cleans her little squirt. I did notice that he had learned to thieve from other cows, but then so did some of the other calves too. Mama and baby went to pasture so I haven’t seen them since. But everyone is alive over there so I’m gonna go with “Mama and baby doing fine”.
