Maine – Our Last Morning

Our last morning in Maine – we should have been hitting the road with a three day drive ahead of us to get home, but it was sunny, still, and beautiful. We couldn’t resist one last look at the ocean before we headed inland.ย  In the parking lot before we walked down to the water, Harland strapped on his camera bag.

It had rained the night before, and all the world was fresh and clean.

The waves broke over the rocks,

cormorants sunned themselves,

and the lobster fisherman pulled in their traps.

Harland did a great job of providing scale to show just how large the rocks are.

We loved everything about Maine. It’s one of those places that gets in your blood, and you think about it long after you return home. This was my second trip there, and Harland’s first.ย  I’m sure it won’t be our last.

Here’s a short video of our last morning. (The last part shows a lobster fisherman pulling in a trap, throwing back any lobsters that are under-size, and keeping those within the legal size limit. )ย  Enjoy!

.

Tomorrow, I’ll show you a waterfall we visited in eastern Pennsylvania our our way home.

Such a beautiful place…thanks for sharing the gorgeous photos! I am curious to see where in eastern PA you were tomorrow!

  3. Wow! Everything did look shiny and clean! I love the pine branch! You can tell just how sunny it was that day by the water photos…so bright and beautiful! Those cormorants are kinda funny looking with their big heads! Looking forward to the waterfall in eastern PA!

Most Beautiful. You two must have had a great time. It looks so totally wild and gorgeous there. The pine branch really caught my attention. So pretty.

Thank you for sharing–we always wanted to go to Acadia, but didn’t–maybe now that we live 1400 miles away, we will make a trip of it, one day (funny how that works)! You made me remember a big difference between the beaches of Maine and NH that I grew up with and the beaches of the Gulf Coast. While the sugar-sand beaches down here are absolutely gorgeous, they don’t have the same constant waves crashing, then gurgling/bubbling over the polished rocks. It is so much wilder, yet the sounds are so soothing and I didn’t realize how much I miss it. Thank you–I’ll be playing these clips when I’m feeling stressed or homesick. ๐Ÿ™‚

You’re so welcome. Glad you enjoyed this. You’re right about the difference – I was born in Florida and we used to go swimming in the gulf, but I don’t recall the waves being anything like Maine.

Thanks for all the lovely views-those are some huge rocks !~! Have you and Harland ever been to Yosemite? Thereโ€™s a slab of granite 3500 feet tall. One. Solid. Slab. they call El Capitan and it is the most impressive rock I have ever seen. You two would love it. Your trip showcases your (both of you) photography skills to an impressive degree.

How beautiful! Everything is so bright and sunny and fresh. I love the ocean but have never been to that side. I does seem wilder than California!!

I love Maine, it is just so pretty . . . and cold in the winter. Worth every minute to get there though.

Hey, I’m so pleased to be able to share. Especially the video this trip. It’s the first trip we’ve been on since I got the video camera so that”s been so much fun cause sometimes pictures just can’t convey the full experience.
      Thanks Glenda!
