A Flight On Super Budget Airlines

Welcome to Super Budget Airlines. We are now boarding your flight at terminal #1.  In an effort to defray costs, and pass on the savings to you our customer, there is no electrical system on this plane. The ground crewperson/pilot’s wife will now start the engine the old fashioned, but economical, way.

Got it!

As a courtesy to our passenger, you get to ride in front of the pilot. (While you, as a passenger, have access to the brake controls, you are asked to please refrain from using them. Thank you for your consideration. )

We will now taxi out onto the runway. Please take note that we do not pave our runway.

This cost saving measure is passed onto our valued customers.

And we’re off.

Please feel free to roam about the cabin. There is no in-flight movie today, but we won’t be climbing to any great altitude so that you will have plenty of ground and trees to look at and won’t feel the need for a movie.

All our flights are short(about 30 minutes) due to the small size of the plane’s gas tank, but this only means that your in-flight time is much shorter than all our competitors.

Please keep your seat belt fastened until we arrive back at the terminal. Do go ahead though and open the window and door to let some fresh air in. Enjoy.

Our gracious staff is here to assist you as you de-board the plane. The pilot and ground crewperson/pilot’s wife/flight attendant will offer any assistance you may need.

This passenger has difficulty exiting the plane due to a knee injury he sustained the day before while photographing a parade. But we are more than happy to help him with his infirmity.

He finally is extracted from the plane,

regains his composure and breathes a few cleansing breaths,

and afterwards poses happily for his complimentary photo.

Just another perk of flying with Super Budget Airlines.

Have a nice day.

It’s not your great -grandfather’s cattle round-up, but we do have all the mooing, bawling, yelling, kicking, and cursing you’d expect from an old-fashioned round up.

  1. I’m sure exiting the plane that way could be promoted as some form of physical therapy and/or yoga.

What a great sense of humor you have – that was so darn funny! Thanks for the smile.

  3. Elizabeth says:

That was good! Your husband had a great smile – I hope my trip to Idaho next week will be a little less fun! Have a great weekend….

  4. You are a hoot!! And what a way to end my week! Thanks for always keeping it real!!!

  5. Glenda says:

In the beginning Harland is grinning like a Banshee and the pilot looks scared stiff!! But all’s well that ends well.

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Glenda,
Yes that pic is puzzling. But I think Harland was still grinning over the sight of a lady with a beehive starting the plane. 🙂

  6. Granny J says:

I can’t stop laughing! I was smiling at the first few pics but I’m with Glenda, that pic got the first laugh and then that exit. Please give Harland my best wishes for a speedy recovery! If blog traffic is up it’s your own doing!

  7. Vivian says:

Poor Harland! He really had a time! Y’all have had some fun flying helicopters and airplanes. I love the photos you took (yesterday). My daughter just finished a book about the Oregon Trail and so we both enjoyed seeing one of the rivers that had to be crossed on the way.

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Vivian,
Harland’s knee is finally getting better, thank you. Glad you and your daughter enjoyed this. I loved seeing the land from that perspective too.

  8. I had fun just reading through that, you all must have had a blast being there!

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Marie Elizabeth,
It was strange and bizarre and painful at the time, but we’ve had a lot of laughs over it since then. 🙂

  9. Nance says:

I’m hoping this is a contest and the winner gets a ride in that plane! I’m entering! I’m ready and willing. I’ll sign the “no liability” consent forms! lol sign me up!

    • Suzanne says:

      HI Nance,
Wouldn’t that be a neat contest? We need to find a blog run by a pilot and see if there are any deals like that. 🙂

  10. Melanie says:

I had to laugh out loud looking at the first picture of Harland–his smile looked a little nervous!!! Great memories!

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Melanie,
He was a little nervous. He’s been on a lot of small planes, but never one that old(1946), and never started in that manner.

  11. Marilyn says:

I think (I’m sure) that this is the first time your post has left me laughing out loud. Your hubby is even more handsome when he is laughing!!

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Marilyn,
Harland laughs every time he sees the photos too. (and I get to see that handsome smile every time too, so I show him the pics when I need to see a smile from him, tee hee)

  12. Ok, there are so many things to say about this post! first of all…poor Harland! that is hilarious! I mean, I’m not laughing at the knee injury…but I am laughing at the poor guy trying to get out of the plane! That is just too much! Poor fella!! The first photo to make me smile was the one at the beginning where Harland is so happy and the pilot looks scared to death! that is hilarious…it’s like it he’s saying…if he knew how I fly, he wouldn’t be smiling! so funny! also, I love how his wife is out there starting the plane with the propeller! I’m loving it! I want to say to her “you go lady!”. That’s awesome!

    • Suzanne says:

Thank you Bonnie. There was so much to laugh about this experience, but we couldn’t until we got back in our truck to leave after it was all over. And then I downloaded the pics when we got home, and we’ve been laughing ever since. The best things in life aren’t planned.

  13. Janet says:

    You need to write books………….

  14. Julie says:

Great funny post! You husband may have alittle trouble getting out of the plane, but really who wouldn’t….looks kinda tight. I hope he got some great photos!

I love the crew person/wife….her hair is perfect…I guess she was going to a wedding after the flight 😉

I like what Janet say…you need to write books….great idea….you’re next adventure!

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Julie,
They told him it would be hard to get back out of the plane, and boy they weren’t kidding. The book idea? Someday someday…when I have more time. I figure I should be about 70 years old by then.

  15. Sally Bishop says:

You didn’t get talked into taking a turn in the airplane?

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Sally,
No way. I wasn’t asked, and I wouldn’t have gone anyway. At the time, I tried to talk Harland out of it. :O

  16. Shailaja says:

Scrolling down the post while still thinking about the (wicked) glee on the face of Harland who had just been given charge of the brake controls, and the Gawd-what-have-I-let-myself-into look on the pilot’s, what do I see but H being forcefully off-loaded from the plane! The crew should’ve seen it coming, I said. Until I read the reason for it, that is 🙂

    • Suzanne says:

      Shailaja,
I hadn’t thought of that, but without the explanation, the photos do look like he’s being force ably removed from the plane. Tee hee.

  17. Teresa says:

Great pictures, and I just love your commentary to go with them!

  18. Ellada says:

Very funny pictures, comedy on a air-plane, with a good end.

  19. Julie says:

That was funny! I have to say, though, the look on the pilot’s face made me think HE was the passenger, at first (and a frightened one, at that!).

  20. Aletha says:

Oh my gosh the Polit look like he was so scared at first and the end Oh gosh I sat here laughting and the comments you made oh gosh that would make a wonderful short film. Where you rolling on the ground laughing? He kept a smile on his face your husband wow that was really great.

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Aletha,
      Thank you!
We didn’t laugh until we got back to our truck and then we laughed off and on all the way home. And when we saw the pics, we laughed some more.

  21. Tom Parker says:

Watching Harland climb/crawl/fold/spindle/mutilate his way out of that little cracker airplane reminded me of watching origami being made. In his case, we have a neat little photographer as a result. Lots of fun watching the action! Thanks for sharing. (And by the way, I am sooooo jealous that you got to go up in the chopper.)

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Tom,
I knew Harland extricating himself from that plane would be a Kodak moment so I just had to take pics of the occasion. 🙂
