Monarch Butterfly Update

Last night, Mr. Monarch looked like this.

And this morning, he looked like this.

In this picture, you can just make out the orange and black of a wing on the left side of the pupa.

I told Harland we better boil some water and call the doctor.

A butterfly will be born sometime today.

Will keep you posted.

UPDATE:  This morning, he hatched!!  A beautiful orange and black monarch butterfly. More later!!

How exciting. Almost time to pass out the cigars. Can’t wait to see the new addition.

  4. Edith says:

How did you get it from the pink pet carrier to the twig?

    • Suzanne says:

The caterpillar attached it with silken thread similar to spiderweb, so I carefully peeled the webbing away from the carrier and attached it to the twig. I added a little glue for insurance.
